Most international visitors should prepare three layers: a supported mobile-payment option such as Alipay or WeChat Pay linked to an eligible card, a physical international card, and some backup cash. App approval, identity checks, card compatibility, merchant acceptance, fees, and limits can change.

Downloading an app is only the first step. Our preparation approach assumes that a phone, network, card issuer, app, or merchant may occasionally interrupt a payment, so no single method should carry the whole journey.
